Keep New Zealand Beautiful
When we were established by the Government in 1967, we were all about litter. But a lot has changed in over half a decade.
Our economy and population has grown, and so has the scale, scope and implications of our waste problem. Today, the three most critical challenges that waste poses to our country is: climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
We believe, as Aotearoa’s oldest and most iconic environmental not-for-profit organisation, that we have an important role to play in addressing these issues. Which is why we’re passionately committed to creating a more climate conscious, ecologically diverse and pollution free future for all New Zealanders.
But we can’t do it alone.
That’s where you, our communities, and our partners come in. Every Kiwi has a part to play in protecting the natural beauty of Aotearoa. The solution isn’t just in large-scale policies, but in the collective power of individual actions. It’s in the family that chooses to clean up their local park, the school that starts a recycling programme, and the business that commits to reducing its packaging waste. This is a movement built from the ground up, driven by a shared love for our land and a commitment to its guardianship, or kaitiakitanga.
Whether you have an afternoon to spare or want to make a long-term commitment, there are many ways to contribute. You can join one of our many nationwide clean-up events, adopt a spot in your neighbourhood to keep tidy, or participate in our educational programmes to learn more about sustainable practices. For those who can, a donation helps fund our resources, research, and community-led initiatives across the country, ensuring we can continue our vital work.
Ultimately, our goal is to foster a culture where caring for our environment is second nature. It's about more than just picking up litter; it's about building mindful communities that actively reduce waste, restore natural habitats, and champion biodiversity. Every piece of rubbish removed, every tree planted, and every person educated contributes to a larger, positive impact that ripples through our society.
Aotearoa's beauty is a taonga, a treasure that defines us as a nation. It is our shared inheritance and our collective responsibility. Join us in protecting and enhancing it for generations to come. Together, we can Keep New Zealand Beautiful.
